THE WIG, A TIMELESS ACCESSORY!

The origin of the wig dates back thousands of years instead. The Egyptians are among the first to wear wigs. During ancient times, many Egyptians shaved their heads and used wigs to protect their heads. The wig can be of human, horse or synthetic origin. There are therefore wigs with synthetic and natural hair.

wig

Besides the Egyptians, the Greeks and the Romans, victims of hair loss, also wear a wig. The wig had then become a symbol of prestige. In France, in the 17th century, King Louis XIII masked his baldness with hairpieces. Very quickly, many important men also began to wear the accessory while covering themselves with a wig to remain elegant. The success of wigs has not waned over the years. Even today they have become real fashion accessories for some and a real necessity for others. Knowing that they can be worn by both a man and a woman. But, whatever the reasons for wearing it – baldness, chemotherapy, change of look – using a wig is always beneficial.

Heat friendly hair extensions or human hair extensions

There have been a lot of debate lately concerning which of these hair extensions is considered the best. Prior to the invention of these two extensions. All we ever cared for was good hair. Is it durable enough? Is it soft enough? Is it convincing enough? And with the inception of various types of extensions, we gradually saw people deviating to what they considered best at the time. Now we have a lot of people with their individual preferences who would kill to have a heat friendly hair extension over a human hair extension and vice versa.

It wasn’t always that difficult to choose. Synthetic hair extensions weren’t doing much good. It was just supposed to be worn for a certain period and it was always sure to shed and wear out very easily, it was only natural to choose the human hair counterpart. However in recent times and with technological advancements, heat friendly hair extensions have been created and we are back to debating which one is the a better alternative

Heat friendly hair extensions
Forget all you know about the synthetic hair extensions, the heat friendly hair extension definitely came with a lot of improvements. Synthetic hair was initially created for a more pocket friendly budget and was at a major disadvantage; highly inflammable, cannot be styled with hot tools and shed easily.

The new invention of synthetic hair extensions saw to it that they are heat friendly, are an excellent alternative to human hair, can be styled, more durable (4 – 6 months) allows for a plethora of colors, are natural looking as human hair, very easy to wear, can definitely be a part of your wardrobe when you choose to glam up and you cannot believe this are still budget friendly. The heat friendly hair extensions has somehow found its way into our hearts and sometimes are even considered a better alternative to the human hair extension

Human hair extension
The human hair extension on the other hand is more expensive and fits seamlessly into your hair. It gives room for versatility in that it can be styled using hot tools similar to how you’d style your hair and definitely lasts longer. It is more durable, can be colored and is definitely a must have.

Having a human hair extension and caring for it is likened to caring for your own hair hence the ease of use and its not so friendly budget.

Now that we have seen the major disparities between these two hair extensions and we understand the difficulty in choosing one over the other, what is the best alternative to go for, human hair extension or heat friendly hair extension?

There are various factors to consider when making a decision
1. How Long do they last
In getting a hair extension this question always comes to mind. Irrespective of the improvement that has been done to heat friendly synthetic hair extensions and no matter how original they may seem, they can only last for a period (4 to 6 months) and this must be well taken care of to ensure that they last this long. The human hair extension on the other hand can last for up to 3 years depending on how well they are looked after

2. Are they easy to maintain
Synthetic hair is known to be pre-set right from the box. Therefore it is very easy to maintain and would not fall easily in rain or humidity as opposed to the human hair extension. Human hair extensions are likened to natural hair and what happens when you style a human hair and walk under the rain? It falls. When it comes to easy maintenance, synthetic hair takes the shine

3. Can they be color treated?
The human hair stands out when it comes to color treatment, however, keep in mind that a human hair is already chemically treated and coloring may damage the hair. This means that you can still color the human hair but not as often as you’d wish. Heat friendly hair on the other hand, does not do well with coloring as coloring can cause permanent damage

4. Do they look natural?
Synthetic hairs are already beginning to blend in effortlessly. It is getting harder by the day to tell a synthetic hair (the heat friendly ones) from a human hair extension in that the both of them blend seamlessly into your hair, you’d be unable to distinguish your hair from the hair extension. The human hair extension on the other hand has a more natural look and is the preferred choice when trying to go for a completely natural look.

5. Budget
How much money are you willing to spare to get your hair extension? It is no news that the human hair extension is more expensive than the heat friendly hair extension and this budget is justified. Most human hairs are 100% gotten from humans whereas the heat friendly hair extensions are manufactured. When it comes to being affordable, the heat friendly hair extension is definitely the go to choice.

When it comes to making a choice generally, it is very difficult to say. A lot of people would go for heat friendly hair extensions because they are easier to maintain, pocket friendly and can now even be styled using hot tools, thanks to technology while others would simply go for human hair extensions because they are more natural and gives the perfect illusion of natural hair.

Making a decision therefore is solely based on your lifestyle or what kind of hair you are going for at that moment and most importantly, your budget at the time of purchase. In conclusion, both of them are excellent choices and can easily be incorporated into your wardrobe. Understand however, that the both of them come with their advantage and disadvantages.

How to Make Your Extensions Look Natural

Hair extensions are one of the secret ingredients that make a woman’s hair look gorgeous and attractive, and most women will want it to remain a secret. No one likes a situation whereby you are walking on the road and someone looks at you and be like “wow she’s using an extension”. It can be really embarrassing hence, hair extensions should be placed in such a way that it will look natural and except you tell someone, no one would figure you used an extension.
Hair extensions shouldn’t be as obvious as your eyelashes or artificial nails that are always very pronounced, it should remain a secret except you decide to let anyone in on your hair secrets. However, it takes only a few tips and tricks to make your extension look as natural as your hair itself. Read further to find out simple ways to make your extension natural.

• Your extension should be the same shade as your hair

The most important tip you should know is that the color of your hair and the extension should be of the same shade. If they are of different shades, then you are letting the world know that you used extensions which isn’t nice at all. If your hair is of two shades, try getting the extension that matches the color of the tip of your hair so that it can blend properly. If you can’t find the exact color of your hair, then you should consider dyeing your hair so it corresponds with your extension. Better still, it’s possible to get a shade of the extension that is a little bit lighter than your hair and it will blend properly with your hair.

• Get the right thickness

Asides from the shades of both the hair and extensions, there are also the different texture of hair. Some people have very thick hair, while some have light hair, hence, before buying your hair extension, you should know the texture of your hair. You need to find the right balance between your extension and your natural hair. If you have thick hair then get thick extensions that will match the thickness of your hair. The same goes for people with light or thin hair. So, you need to pick the right extension that will fit the texture of your hair. If you are confused about this, then you can ask a professional for help.

• Get human hair extensions The type of extensions you get also determines how it will look on your hair. Human hair extensions are simply the best and they fit perfectly into your hair, with the human hair extension fixed in your hair, you can style your hair together with your extension in any way you can and it will look good. Human hair works well with heat, so you can use a thonging machine or hair straightener to style your hair and the extension will not be affected in any way. But if your extensions are synthetic, then you have another thing coming because it will be quite difficult to style. Synthetic hair extensions get damaged when it comes in contact with heat. So human hair extensions are the best.

• Style

What do you have in mind when styling your hair with extensions? Just like your hair wig, you need to wear it first before styling. Same goes with your extension, fix in your extension before styling your hair and that way it looks more natural. Since you are using human hair extensions, you can use a thonging machine while styling. And if you have short hair, you can twist the tip of your extension together with your hair and pack it in the form of buns and no one will ever suspect you used extensions.

• Use the right length of the extension

Another important thing you need to consider is the length of both your hair and the extension. One big blunder you can make is getting a very long extension to be fixed to short hair, no matter how great you style your hair, the extensions will still be glaring and letting people know you actually used extensions. If you have short hair, use hair extensions that are short also so it blends well with your hair.

• Application and fitting If you want your hair extension to look natural, then how you fix it is paramount. Since you have succeeded in getting the perfect shade and length for your hair, then how to apply it properly should be next on your mind. In order not to do a bad job while applying it, it is best to visit a professional who can do a perfect job. A professional will help fix your extensions in a way that no one will be able to tell if you used extensions or not. A professional will place the extensions carefully and step by step if there is any need to trim the extension to for your hair, then the stylist will trim it properly and ensure it is fitting. And if you want to apply your extension yourself, then you should know the steps to take in fitting it into your hair so you don’t make a mess of your hair.

• Hair shampoos and hair spray
If you decide to fix your hair extensions yourself then you can use a shampoo or hair spray to make it hold in firmly. It would be very embarrassing for your extensions to pull off when you don’t fix it properly, so to avoid such embarrassment, use your shampoo and spray to make the extension stay firm on your hair.

Looking to change your look a little bit? Try switching up your hairstyle and see how perfect it will look on you. There are lots of things you can do to change your hairstyle which includes changing your hair color or using a wig to change the style of your hair. Wigs have been trending but they tend to cause a lot of heat and becomes itchy, so what is best is using an extension to change your hairstyle. With extensions, you become very comfortable and they are easier to maintain. However, your extensions need to look and feel natural, hence, using the above-mentioned steps will help you achieve that natural look.

Why Choose Online Shopping When You Stay From COVID-19

The year 2020 met us with the COVID-19 pandemic. Pandemics can have major impacts on the society, as is evident from the COVID-19 scourge.  This is one health challenge that has gone on to affect every aspect of our lives. Its effect can be felt in our health system, travels and tourism, the financial sector, retail shopping and in the society in general.

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, countries around the world are taking extraordinary measures to secure the health and safety of its citizens, ensuring the battle against this disease is won in no distant time. As a response of the COVID-19 pandemic, restrict the world over, have instituted containment measures to restrict the movement of people in order to prevent further spread of the disease. This necessitated the shutdown of retail outlets and businesses that cater to our everyday needs.

As a result, online retail stores have taken over to fill the gap. Surveys carried out by different research firms show that the online retailing industry has witnessed a boom. This is as consumers adjust to the situation of their inability to walk down a nearby store and purchase what they need. It’s no surprise therefore, that many customers have embraced the world of virtual shopping to meet their various needs.

Overnight, it seems everyone has caught the bug of online shopping. From my 69-year-old grand mum in the countryside of Idaho to my 8-year-old niece in Glasgow, everyone seems to have something to shop for online. The strict social distancing rules in place have made online shopping a viable alternative. It’s funny how the average buyer’s preferred shopping method has changed dramatically over the course of a few weeks. Well, they’ve been forced to. It’s a classic case of adapt or die at play.

So, as the COVID-19 scourge rages on, these are the reasons why an online store should be your next port of call as you decide to shop for a few essentials for yourself and your family members.

  • Convenience: Convenience remains one of the highest perks of online shopping. Many people may not have discovered the glaring advantages that accrue to shopping online prior to the lockdown measures. And now that they have, they are forced to beat themselves up in exasperation thinking, why hadn’t I thought of this earlier? Where else can you comfortably shop in the early hours of the morning while still in bed and have it delivered just as you rise up to brush your teeth? You won’t have to face a rude shopping assistant, who might just spoil your mood for the rest of the day. With online stores, there are no queues to beat, and no standing in line waiting for your turn while you’re forced to start up small talks with the next person in line, in order not to appear rude. Also, with online stores, you have access to thousands of products at your beck and call. I for one love reading classic literature. These are hard to find in physical paperbacks. Now I have access to their digital versions online. It’s been a jolly good ride ever since.
  • Price comparisons: With online stores, you can compare prices and products of different brands very easily before settling with the brand with the best offer. Bored to hell the other day, I decided to glance through an online store when I stumbled upon an item I had purchased weeks earlier from a departmental store. The price I saw on the online store and the price I had bought mine for from the retail store were miles apart. I felt fleeced. Just to be sure I had not stumbled on a fake product online, or maybe a replica, I ordered it immediately. When it was delivered, later on, I knew I had been conned out of my hard-earned money. This experience changed my perspective about shopping online. With physical stores, you can’t go around looking for the best offer. And even if you could, how many stores can you go to before you lose interest through physical exhaustion? Also, where’s the time to go window shopping when everyday work, kids and academics are fighting for our time.
  • Send Gifts to loved ones: This period, we are all vulnerable. Little gifts can help friends and loved ones who may be having tough times You surely cannot visit friends and families in faraway towns and cities during memorable events. So, the next best thing is to send gifts across to support them especially on birthdays, anniversaries, graduations and other such occasions.
  • Shop over distance: This period you cannot hop into the plane traveling to a place like, say China in order to purchase an art relic you’ve been eyeing over the years. Not with the travel international travel bans here and there. Online shopping will help you shop over distance.
  • No crowds: Even before the social distancing guidelines and all, I was one person who hated crowds. I wouldn’t be caught dead shopping during the festive periods when large crowds are expected in the malls. I timed my shopping to only times when I knew it was just me and no other person. This means there were selected places where I shopped. The lockdown has given me a leeway in avoiding all the hassles that crowds bring, and I’m surely sticking with this trend even after the pandemic is over.

Tips for secured shopping online during COVID-19

  • Shop at a trusted site: Examine the site for trust indicators and make sure it has TLS/SSL encryption.
  • Do not give personal information: If you’re asked for personal information, call verified customer care channels to
  • Use strong passwords: Your account in all e-commerce sites should be created with strong passwords involving a complex mix of uppercase, lowercase, numbers and symbols.
  • Deals in your email: Avoid deals sent to your email that seem too good to be true. There will be emails with COVID-19 related subjects, links and attachment. Deal with them with suspicions.

Finally, with the extended lockdown in place due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there would be a lot more shopping done through online channels. These are unprecedented times and any platform to help us cope and minimize the devastating disruptions to our everyday life is welcomed. However, while you shop online, it’s important you adopt the highest level of safety tips to protect yourself.

Clip-In Hair Extensions
Clip-In Hair Extensions

Wearing Clip-In Hair Extensions:
The procedure that you need to follow to wear clip-in hair extensions is:

1) The first step that you need to follow to wear clip-in hair extensions is to lay out your clip-in hair extensions according to their length and width size. After laying them out, you need to carefully detangle them using a hairbrush. You can take any length and width of the clip-in hair extension that you find best matches your requirements and hair type.

2) The next step is to part your front hair the way you normally do with the help of a tail comb.

3) After you have parted your front hair, divide your hair at right angles, starting from the point where you parted your hair initially to your ear.

4) Once you have divided your front hair perpendicularly, you need to use the hair clip to hold that section in place.

5) After you have divided your hair on one side of the head, you need to do the same to the hair on the other side of your head as well, i.e., divide them perpendicularly and clip them in place.

6) Now, take the hair from the back of your head and divide an inch of the bottom hair. Hold in place the rest of your back hair using another hair clip. Essentially, dividing your hair into four major sections, i.e., two perpendicular hair sections from the front, one section of back hair, and one section of the bottom hair.

7) Once you are done with the partition of your hair, pick the clip-in hair extension that best matches the section of hair you want to add that extension to.

8) If the clip-in extensions that you are using for your hair come with a single clip for each hair extension, you can use double of those extensions for each section of divided hair, however, you need to keep those clips at least two inches apart.

9) Now, take rubber bands and tie your bottom hair section into smaller sections, keeping in view the distance of the clips on the hair extensions.

10) Tying your hair with the help of the rubber bands will prevent the clip-in extensions from slipping off your hair.

11) Open the clip of the first extension and secure the extension on the tied section of hair by closing the clip. Once you have snapped closed all the clips of the extension, you need to smooth out your hair with the help of a brush or by gently using your fingers.

12) Now, make another section of hair, almost an inch up from the bottom section, by taking the hair from the back section. For this section too, take the extension that best fits it. You are going to do the same for all the next sections.

13) Repeat the process of making smaller sections of hair by tying your hair with the help of rubber bands and securing clip-in extensions on those sections of hair.

14) Again, you are going to repeat the process of dividing bottom hair into sections that are one inch above the other and further dividing that section into smaller sections by tying them with the help of rubber bands and securing clip-in extensions on the tied sections of hair.

15) Every time you complete a section of hair, smooth out the hair with the help of your fingers or hairbrush so that the knots are being detangled each time.

16) Once you have clipped-in all the hair extensions into the back and bottom hair sections, you can start with the front hair of perpendicular sections.

17) For the front hair, you should use smaller clip-in hair extensions with single clips.

18) After you have clipped-in all the hair extensions, you can style your hair however you desire.

Is Synthetic Wig Really Not As Good As Human Hair Wig?

As we enter the market to purchase the wig we desire, we are faced by a variety of options and suddenly, the answer doesn’t seem so clear anymore. Should we opt for the synthetic wig, or go for the human hair wig instead? Or is the heat-friendly synthetic wig the solution to our hair woes? To prevent the confusion from building up, it is better to do some research beforehand, and know which wig works best for us.

Human hair wigs are just as the name entails – they are made of natural, human hair strands. You might have heard about hair donations by people for a good cause. That is mostly how the natural hair ended up gracing the wigs. The greatest charm of these wigs is how real they look; with no unnatural shine and the ability to bounce around like natural hair, wearing a human hair wig is feels just like having your natural hair back. On the other hand, synthetic hair wigs are made from man-made fibers, which tend to imitate human hair, and mostly are indistinguishable unless looked at very closely. These wigs are perfectly styled, with the ability to retain their look after any and all activities.

There is a popular opinion of synthetic wigs not being as good as human hair wigs. The opinion is certainly not unfounded, because human hair wigs bring with themselves an abundance of advantages:

  • The All-Natural Look

Considering human hair wigs are made from actual hair, they appear no different than the time when you actually had hair. Resembling the texture and feel of real hair, the wig exclaims all things natural.

Being made of human hair also means the hair acts just like normal hair would; stylish as ever sometimes, whilst untamed otherwise. However, this also means it can be styled as any way we want, something we aren’t able to achieve with synthetic hair. Whether we want to don a perm today or go for a straightened look, the human hair wig makes it fairly easy and simple to achieve any of these styles.

A great plus point in human hair wigs is the large variety of textures, hues, and lengths on offer. We can search entire markets and will eventually land on a wig which completes resembles the hair we had earlier, making it difficult for others to tell the difference between the hair we had before, and the hair we have now. Win-win? We think so!

  • Get those Pops of Color

Since the wig has human hair, it can be easily dyed without any side effects, unlike synthetic wigs. This means just because we have lost our hair, doesn’t mean we give up on the little things we love. Dying our hair in a variety of colors, from ombre highlights to purple edges, the sky is the limit with human hair wigs. We simply have to search for a hair stylist proficient in coloring human hair wigs.

  • Apt for Sensitive Skins

When we think about wearing wigs, the idea makes us scratch our heads. We often find ourselves wondering: How will the wig be attached? Will it feel comfortable?

With human hair wigs, there is no need to worry about itching or rash on the scalp because the wig has a very high probability of adapting comfortably to the head. Thus, making the human hair wig an especially good option for those with sensitive skins.

  • Long-Lasting

Human hair wigs are highly durable. Known to last up to a year, they are a good option for those who wish for a long-lasting remedy to hair loss. On the other hand, synthetic wigs merely last for 4-6 months.

People opt for human hair wigs not only due to the advantages brought forth by this type of wig, but also the disadvantages of the synthetic wig. The synthetic wig although is a product of newest technologies and imitates human hair, it has a certain unnatural shine to it which makes it noticeable (especially in the sunlight), giving onlookers the feeling that the person is indeed wearing a wig. Sensitive to heat, synthetic wigs are easily harmed which makes styling them very difficult. They usually come in a particular style (e.g. curled, etc.) and eventually bounce back to their initial form, regardless of the hairstyling you practice on it. Even if you wash your hair, as soon as it dries up, the wig returns to its original style.

However, just because the synthetic wig is refrained to exhibiting a particular look, does not necessarily mean a downside of the wig. For people who struggle with time and energy to manage the upkeep of their hair, synthetic wigs are a blessing in disguise. There is no need to take out time for styling the hair as it comes styled, always. Another charming feature of the synthetic wigs is the low maintenance. They should be washed after 4-6 wears, unlike human hair wigs which, being human hair, need to be washed after each wear. Furthermore, human hair wigs also require proper shampooing, oiling, and conditioning – which may pose as another hassle.

Although synthetic wigs cannot be dyed, why go through the trouble of dyeing when you can find an abundance of colored and widely styled wigs? Simply try the wig on, and if it suits your face, make the purchase. Synthetic wigs are cheap as compared to human hair wigs, and thus make for an easy-buy.

Therefore, the question of which wig is better cannot be answered so easily as each has their own sets of pros and cons. For people who want a low maintenance, easy to control wig – the synthetic wig is the way to go. For those who want their hair to look as natural as possible, the human hair wig should be opted for. For the ones who reside in cities with extreme weather conditions, the human hair wig may prove uncontrollable most of the times, thus a man-made synthetic wig might be better suited. For ones who know their hair loss is permanent, the human hair wig is a better investment due to enhanced durability, and value for money.

Thus, the answer to which wig is better varies across individuals. What matters is, which wig is best suited to us, and our conditions and needs. Remember, although our hair is an important part of us, it surely isn’t the only aspect which represents us. Thus, whatever wig you decide to purchase, don it with confidence, and you are bound to shine wherever you go!
