I want to purchase a topper, but where should I start?

Many people want to purchase a topper but have no clue at all about how to choose one and which kind of topper will fit them best. By asking yourself these questions it will help you get somewhere step by step.

1. What is the purpose of buying a topper? Is it just for adding hair volume or to cover the hair thinning area?
To add hair volume, you have many choices about the size. Usually a small size like 5×5 or 5.5×5.5 can provide enough coverage with no problem.
To cover the hair thinning area, you need to measure your own cap size first. Is it 5×5, 6×6, 6×7, 8×9 or even bigger? After knowing your cap size, you can narrow your choices to a few specific hair topper options.

2. What kind of base do you like?
Usually there are 3 kinds of bases on the market, and they are Lace base, Monofilament base and Silk top base.
Monofilament base allows a smooth skin base top that resembles your own natural scalp. A mono-top mimics the look of natural hair growth and provides hair parting for the greatest versatility in styling.

This is another great choice if you want to ensure that the front hairline simulates your own. It is very light-weight and breathable which is perfect for hot days!

lace base
lace base

This is the most realistic scalp the market has to offer today. It perfectly hides the knots and you don’t need to worry about any other techniques to make the knots invisible or less visible.

silk top base
silk top base

Silk top base has three layers of bases to create the most natural hairline. Thus it requires a certain technique to make it lay flat on the head and look natural on you. It is not recommended that beginners choose a silk top base. On the other hand, lace base is most breathable and easy to fit the head shape. However, you need glue to secure it in the front, hence it is also not the best option for beginners. All in all, Monofilament base might be a good choice for beginners.

3. What hair material do you like? Human hair or Synthetic fiber?
Human hair is just like your own hair and it is the choice of 90% customers. For human hair, you also can dye it, flatten it, and curl it. However, synthetic fiber is more economic.

4. What texture do you like?
You can choose the texture that you like. It has many options like natural straight, body wave, loose wave, curl, etc.

5. What color do you choose?
Not like a full wig, a slight difference of the color will not matter. For a topper, you need to pick a color that will exactly match with your own bio hair and this fact makes this step the most difficult one. First you can pick one or two close colors and compare them with your bio hair color by checking the photos on the website. The reviews and the pictures that customers posted. If you still cannot verify the color, you can contact their customer service desk to ask for some pictures of the hair sample and actual hair color to get more references.

6. What length do you like?
You can get a visual idea about what length you need through below picture.

7. What density do you need?
Usually 130% density can satisfy the needs of 90% of the customers. However, some people prefer really lush and full hair volume. In that case, then 150% or 180% can be your choices.

After answering all these questions step by step, you can get a clear idea what hair toppers will fit you the best.

How to dye a synthetic wig

Dying a synthetic wig is very different from dying human hair wigs. Dying your synthetic hair wig in a correct manner is like a dream come true. While dying a hair wig, it is usually advised to have all the right materials on hand to ensure the process goes relatively smoothly. This also applies for dying a synthetic hair wig.

So what will you need?
1.Synthetic Wig that is heat resistant.
2.Fabric dye of your choice.
3.A flat plastic comb.
4.Pot and stove.
5.Old clothes maybe.
6.A pair of surgical (latex or rubber) gloves.

So, what are the steps to dye a synthetic wig?
1.Set up your Wig Stand on a dry, newspaper-covered, flat and stable surface. The dyeing process may be really messy, so it’s best to choose an area that’s far away from any valuables.
2.Place your wig on the Stand and put on your gloves. Put on an old outfit that you don’t care about in case some of the dye gets on your clothing.
3.Mix a 1:1 ratio of alcohol-based ink and water in a spray bottle. If you’re wanting to go for a more translucent pastel shade, such as mint green, you can add more water.
4.The original color to a large degree determines the result. White or blonde synthetic hair is quite easy to dye compared to much darker colors. But dark synthetic hair cannot be dyed to a lighter or white color. Therefore, choose a wig that you want, as long as it’s a light color, such as white, light blonde, silver, or a pastel shade.
5.Start by dyeing the top layer of hair that’s visible when the wig is parted naturally. Take your spray bottle and spray your dye 3-5 times in a single area to coat a section of about 2-3 inches (5.1-7.6 cm) wide. Dig your fingers into the root area and wiggle them from side to side as you bring them down through the hair. Run your hands through the section 2-3 times to ensure that it gets completely coated.
6.After you’ve sprayed every section of hair with dye and tried to spread it out as much as possible with your hands, the hair may still not look completely uniform. To finish evening out the dye application, use a wide-tooth comb to comb through the hair from the roots to the tips all the way around the head.
7.After you’re done dying your wig, set it outside somewhere in the sun and let it dry completely. This usually takes about 2-3 hours, but may take longer if your wig is especially long or thick.
8.Once your wig feels dry to the touch, take it to a sink and turn on the water. Rinse your wig until the water in the sink is completely clear, and no longer has traces of the ink color.
9.Detangle your wig with a wide-tooth comb. Spray the wig with a synthetic hair conditioner, which you can find at your local beauty supply store.

Some of the tips are from Wikihow.com. Hope these tips can help you achieve your dream of dyeing a synthetic wig to a cool fashion color.

The Do’s for dealing with Fine or Thin Hair

We know there are lot of people who are struggling with their fine or thin hair. So today, let’s talk about the Do’s for managing Fine/Thin Hair.

1.Easy does it.
Try to be as gentle as possible to your hair. Fine hair is much more fragile than thick healthy hair. When you shampoo your hair, remember to gently massage your hair and scalp instead of roughly rubbing it because it’s easy to damage the hair-especially when it’s wet.

2.Conditioning the ends of your hair.
Please try to avoid putting too much conditioner around your hair roots because this can flatten your hair more easily as the more treatment products that touch your roots, the more weight that is added, and your hair will eventually become flatter. This is why we make sure to only condition from the level of our ears on down, making sure to rinse it and leave the top half completely free of hair conditioner.

3.Cold water.
We know it sounds a bit cruel, but using cold water works very well for me. When we take a shower,we usually try to shower with not very hot water (which is really not good for your hair). We always use lukewarm water when we take a shower, and then we turn the tap to cold and rinse all the conditioner out of our hair. We feel that this process helps me to seal everything and is a lot healthier for my hair. We  know that process requires suffering a little pain at the time, but it will make a difference.

4.Gently Brush.
Please gently brush your hair from the top of your head (NOT from your roots) to the end of it by using a wide tooth comb.

5.Choose the right HAIR PRODUCT/HAIR TOPPER at UniWigs.com

The number 1 question that customers ask about Toppers

As newcomers to hair toppers, there are many things that we would like to know and many things we should be aware of. Here is the number one question that UniWigs’ customers usually ask about hair toppers.

Number 1:
I have been suffering from hair loss for years now, so how can I choose the right topper for myself?

This question has been frequently asked because most customers are new to this product. They never realized that there is a product which can be meant specially for them except for the wigs and extensions. So, how can you choose a perfect topper? What should you know before making the decision?

1.You have to know how severe your hair loss is.
 If you only have a thinning parting line, or you don’t have any serious hair loss at all and just want to add to your hair volume, congratulations! You have plenty of options at the base size and construction. Toppers are designed not only for those who are hair loss sufferers, but also for those who would like to have a better volume or a perfect hairstyle for occasions such as weddings or parties.
However, if you do suffer from major hair loss, your choice of toppers would be limited to only larger base toppers. And the size of the topper depends on the degree of your hair loss, so how can you determine it? Please check out this video which may help you out,

2. In addition to determining the base size, you should know which type of construction would be the best-suited to your needs.

Let’s take UniWigs for example. There are a wide variety of base construction options such as silk top, mono topper and lace topper. So, what’s the difference between these various types?

Normally, all of them share the function of completely and effectively covering up the hair loss area.
The silk top has the best invisible base which is just like our own scalp. However, it is extremely thick and will prove to be sweaty as well.
The mono topper is familiar to us because it has been used as the wig of choice for cancer patients It is softer than a silk top and has a good parting line.
The lace topper, which has the best price in 3 of them, has a front lace that has to be trimmed. Because of this, it is not usually the first option or the beginner.

3.Choosing the right color.
After determining the base size and base construction, we come to the hair color.

Hair color is the most important factor to consider for hair toppers because we have to make sure it matches the color of our natural hair, or it has the perfect style which can match our face frame and skin tone.
If you are not sure about the way to choose the hair color, there are 2 methods to solve it.
1. By sending a hair sample to them. This would be the easiest way, but it takes a longer time.
2. By ordering a color ring from their website. Then you can return the color ring to them after placing the order for a full refund.

https://www.uniwigs.com/care-products/41120-color-chart-human-hair-extension.html
3. By choosing a natural black topper and getting it dyed. Please be aware that only the natural black can be bleached, and that all of the other colors can only be dyed into darker tone.
4. By making a custom order. You also can send them a picture with the color that you would love to make, and they will quote the price for you. However, the custom-made product cannot be returned, so you have to make sure before ordering.

4 . How to choose the right length
For the straight item, you can choose the length according to the picture shown below:

For the wavy topper the hair length should be measured from the hair root to the hair bottom when the hair is set straight. The curly and wavy wigs have been produced from straight wigs, so for the same length, a curly or wavy wig will be shorter by 1″-2″ than the straight wig.
*It varies depending on how deep the curl is.

After confirming all of the above, you can have a better idea about which hair topper is the one that’s ideal for you. Please be aware that sometimes everything is perfect with the topper, except for the fact that it doesn’t fit you properly. Because of this unfortunate fact, UniWigs is now planning for an offline store, which would be a good development for those who are new to toppers.

How to Install Lace Frontal?

Understanding the proper application of a lace frontal is essential to aesthetics and safety. Otherwise, the process may lead to hair loss and skin and/or wig damage. Unlike traditional wigs a lace frontal, commonly referred to as a “lace front wig,” features a mesh of Swiss or French lace constructed along its front perimeter. The hair along the perimeter of the wig is hand-tied onto the lace, allowing it to emulate a natural hairline. In addition, specially made adhesives are applied directly beneath the hairline of the wig in order to secure the lace frontal closure along the scalp.

lace frontal

1. Secure your hair so it lies flat underneath the wig. This can be achieved by two methods:
Cornrow braid your hair. Take the tooth end of your rat tail comb and part your hair into vertical sections one by one. Part in a straight line beginning from the middle of your hairline on back to the nape of your neck (how small you want your braids is determined by the width or amount of hair in between each part). Take three sections of hair left in between these parts and braid the hair into a cornrow. Repeat the process until all your hair is securely braided. Place the wig cap over your hair.
Tightly gather your loose hair. Comb or brush the hair back flat and away from your face. Pin the hair as you see fit. Place the wig cap over your hair. Tuck any loose strands of hair underneath the wig cap.

2. Wet a gauze pad generously with rubbing alcohol. Rub it along your hairline wherever adhesive will be applied so as to cleanse away dirt, oil and debris that may be on your skin. Allow the skin to air dry completely.

3. Apply scalp protectant as directed along your hairline wherever hair adhesive will be applied on the skin. Allow it to air dry completely.

4. Trace lightly where you would like the lace front wig to rest, using a makeup pencil, as you do not want the edge of the human hair lace front wig to lie directly over the hair at the hairline. To reasonably recreate the appearance of a natural hairline, trace no further than 1/2 inch away from your actual hairline.

5. Trim off any excess lace left around the hairline of the lace front wig carefully, using scissors. Cut all the lace off directly up to the hairline of the lace frontal.

6. Apply a thin coat of adhesive bond along the edge of the wig cap (this prevents wig cap from slipping backward while underneath the wig), in between the actual and traced hairlines, and along the nape of the neck. Do not apply the lace front on wet glue or it won’t secure properly. Allow “soft bond” adhesives to set or get “tacky” to the touch. However, “hard bond” adhesives do not require drying time as they dry immediately upon application.
To use adhesive tape cut the tape to the desired length. Firmly press the tape directly beneath the hairline of the lace front wig along your forehead and the nape of your neck. Allow small gaps in between the strips of tape so moisture can escape. Allow the tape to set for 5 to 10 minutes. Peel off the back of the tape to expose the adhesive.

7. Position the lace front wigs human hair on your head starting from the back and it lifting forward over your head. Keep the wig slightly elevated over the scalp so the wig won’t slide down onto the adhesive once you’ve reached your forehead. Line up the perimeter edge of the wig over the desired hairline or tape. Glue users press down along the entire perimeter of the lace frontal so as to secure it in place. Tape users press and hold the entire perimeter of the lace frontal for up to one minute.

8. Tie the scarf securely around your hairline to allow the wig to thoroughly bond to the adhesive on your skin. If the lace front is made of human or heat resistant hair you may sit under a dryer as long as needed to assist the bonding process — this is optional. Do not wash or vigorously manipulate the lace front wig for 24 hours.

wigs care tips

Here is some good styling treatment for you to care your lovely wigs, pls read carefully and do as it writes, then your wig will be nice for ever~!

wigs care
wigs care

1.The right attitude is key to pulling off any hairstyle. If you are constantly worrying or fidgeting with your wig ,it won’t look good. Own it! Walk tall, be confident and you will be able to pull off any look you want..
2.Take your wig to your hairstylist to have bangs cut or trimmed, shaped or thinned out to remove excess bulk. A custom cut can make a world of difference. Think of your wig like a designer suit. Sure, you can wear it off the rack (or out of the box) and it can look good, but with a little tailoring it can look GREAT!
3.If you want to extend the life of your wig and keep it looking beautiful the proper care products are essential. Synthetic wigs require care products specifically formulated for synthetic hair. For human hair wigs, choose sulfate-free care products or products specifically formulated for color treated hair to keep the color looking vibrant, longer.
4.You should always have two wigs ready to wear at all times. This way you always have something to wear when you are washing your wig and a back up if anything should happen to one. Rotating between wigs also helps to extend the life.
5.If you love to cook here is a tip every wig wearer should know; NEVER open the oven while wearing a synthetic wig! The sudden burst of heat will ruin your wig; even the hot steam from a boiling pot of water can cause irreparable damage.
Avoid these kitchen disasters. Swap your wig for a stylish scarf or comfy cap; better yet, kick back and let someone else do the dirty work.
6.Synthetic wigs with too much shine look fake and unnatural. To minimize shine, sprinkle a little hair powder on your wig, and then brush through for a more natural look.
7.Add a headband, scarf or any hair accessory to create a personal touch. Just because you are wearing a wig doesn’t mean you have to wear it the same way all the time. Be creative.
