With the arrival of the holiday season, the Obama family unveiled their final white house Christmas decoration, and it looks like they saved the best for the last. This year’s White House Christmas decoration theme is “The Gifts of the Holiday”, reflecting the joy and gratefulness of giving and receiving.
On November 25th, the first lady Michelle Obama accompanied by her two nephews, Austin and Aaron Robinson, and her Portuguese water dogs Bo and Sunny, welcomed the official Christmas tree from the Whispering Pines Tree Farm in Oconto, Wisconsin. Displayed in the Blue Room at the White House, the 19-foot Christmas tree took the volunteers four days to decorate and trim. Another highlight of this years’ Christmas Decoration is the ginger-bread houses made out of more than 200,000 Lego pieces. They are set in the State Dining Room representing the 56 U.S. States and territories.
The two larger-than-life replica’s of the family dogs, Bo and Sunny made from yarn pom-poms are located in the East Wing to greet the Holiday visitors.
According to Vogue, 65,000 ornaments, 8,000 bows, 7,500 strands of ribbon, 109 wreaths and 1,245 feet of garland were used in this year’s White House decoration. However, 90 percent of the decor was re-purposed, and only 10 percent of the decorations are new.
