How to Dye a Lace Base Human Hair Topper or Wig

Are you nervous about dyeing a lace base human hair topper or a wig? It does require some careful steps to protect the delicate lace from staining. Step 1: Gather your materials

Before diving into the dyeing process, assemble all the necessary materials. You will need a hair dye of your choice. Additionally, grab a plastic or glass bowl for mixing the dye, a hair dye brush or applicator, hair clips, a wide-tooth comb, gloves, hair conditioner, and petroleum jelly or clear barrier cream.

Step 2: Protect the lace

To safeguard the lace from potential staining, it’s crucial to create a protective barrier. Apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or clear barrier cream around the edges of the lace and any other areas where the dye might come into contact with the lace. This will help prevent the dye from seeping through and staining the lace.

Step 3: Section and secure the hair

Using hair clips, divide the hair into manageable sections. Clip away the hair that you do not wish to dye, exposing only the hair strands that you want to color. This step will make the dyeing process more organized and efficient.

Step 4: Prepare and apply the dye

Follow the instructions on the hair dye packaging to mix the dye in a plastic or glass bowl. If the dye requires a developer or any other mixing agent, ensure you follow the instructions carefully. With gloves on, take the hair dye brush or applicator and evenly apply the dye to the exposed hair strands, making sure to cover all the desired areas. Avoid applying excessive dye, as it may seep through the lace.

Step 5: Comb the dye through

To ensure even distribution of the dye, use a wide-tooth comb to gently comb the dye through the hair strands. This step helps prevent clumps and ensures a consistent color. Be careful not to disturb or tangle the lace during this process.

Step 6: Let the dye sit

Refer to the instructions provided with the hair dye to determine the recommended processing time. Allow the dye to sit on the hair strands for the specified duration to achieve the desired color. It’s essential to follow the suggested time frame to avoid over-processing the hair.

Step 7: Rinse and condition

Once the processing time is complete, rinse the hair under cool water until the water runs clear. Be cautious while rinsing to avoid rubbing or scrubbing the lace, as it may cause damage. After rinsing, apply a small amount of hair conditioner to the hair strands to restore moisture and promote softness.

Step 8: Dry the topper or wig

Gently pat the topper or wig dry with a towel or allow it to air dry. Avoid using excessive heat, such as a blow dryer, as it may damage the synthetic hair fibers or deform the lace. Give the topper or wig ample time to dry completely before styling.

Step 9: Style and finalize

Once the topper or wig is dry, style it as desired. You can use heat styling tools or other accessories to achieve your preferred look. If necessary, you can trim or shape the hair topper or wig to suit your desired style and blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

We hope these guidelines help you dye the lace base hair topper or the wig successfully! Get a brand new desired color safely!

How to Make Your Human Hair Wig Look Natural Tips and Tricks

Wearing a human hair wig can be an excellent way to change your hairstyle without committing to a permanent look. However, making a wig look natural can be a bit challenging. In this article, we will share some tips and tricks to help you make your human hair wig look more realistic and blend seamlessly with your natural hair.

Choose the Right Wig

The first step to making your wig look natural is to choose the right wig. When shopping for a human hair wig, consider the texture, color, and length that best matches your natural hair. You can also opt for a wig that has a similar density and volume to your hair for a more natural look.

Cut and Style the Wig

Once you have your wig, the next step is to cut and style it to match your face shape and natural hairline. Consider consulting with a professional stylist who can help you achieve the look you desire. Cutting and styling your wig can help it blend seamlessly with your natural hair and make it look more realistic.

Use the Right Products

Using the right products can help make your human hair wig look more natural. Use wig-specific shampoos and conditioners to keep your wig looking fresh and healthy. You can also use a leave-in conditioner or wig oil to keep the hair soft and smooth.

Protect Your Wig

To keep your human hair wig looking natural, you need to protect it from damage. Avoid exposing your wig to heat from styling tools, such as curling irons and straighteners. Also, avoid exposing your wig to direct sunlight for extended periods as this can cause fading.

Blend Your Natural Hair

Blending your natural hair with your wig is essential for achieving a natural look. You can use a wig cap to secure your natural hair before wearing your wig. Also, consider styling your natural hair in a way that complements the wig’s style and color.

Straight hair wigs

Adjust the Wig

Adjusting your wig is crucial for a natural look. Make sure that the wig fits snugly on your head and adjust the straps or clips to secure it in place. You can also trim the excess lace around the hairline to make it look more natural.

Practice Makes Perfect

Practice makes perfect when it comes to making your human hair wig look natural. Spend time experimenting with different hairstyles and techniques to find the one that works best for you. Don’t be afraid to ask for help from a stylist or a friend who has experience wearing wigs.

Consider the Hairline

When wearing a human hair wig, the hairline is an essential factor to consider. Ensure that the hairline of your wig looks natural and realistic. You can achieve this by trimming the excess lace around the hairline, using a wig adhesive to secure it in place, and using makeup to match the wig’s hairline with your skin tone. A natural-looking hairline can make all the difference in making your wig look more like your natural hair.

Conclusion:

wearing a human hair wig can be an excellent way to change your hairstyle without committing to a permanent look. By following these tips and tricks, you can make your wig look more natural and blend seamlessly with your natural hair. Remember to choose the right wig, cut and style it, use the right products, protect it, blend your natural hair, adjust it, and practice. With time, you will be able to wear your wig with confidence and achieve a flawless, natural look.

How to Level-up Brown Wigs

Selecting your natural hair color is always recommended when choosing a wig or topper. However, choosing isn’t always as easy as it sounds. There’s literally thousands of shades of all different colors to choose from, and while most wig companies select the most common, it’s still hard and a little risky when trying to match your exact tone. That’s why at Uniwigs we want to help solve the mystery of choosing the best color options by showing you what works and how colors are graded based on natural tone.

One thing you have to know is that not all hair manufacturers are the same. Lower grade hair is always more difficult to process and in turn, more difficult to turn into the right color. At Uniwigs, we use the highest grade natural human hair available to get the perfect shade every time. Even with our advanced manufacturing techniques, one thing to point out is that brown hair will always carry a reddish hue across the color spectrum. The reason for this is because the base color for manufacturing is a natural black. Turning black into a brown is a delicate process, which is why you should always choose Uniwigs for your wigs and toppers. Our shades of brown have the most natural look while retaining all of the quality and elements you expect in natural human hair.

G-2
Our G-2 shade of brown human hair is the closest shade to natural dark brown hair available on the market. If you prefer a slightly darker-muted look, we also offer 211 expresso brown. Now you’re asking yourself “Aren’t these two colors the same?”. The answer might surprise you. While it’s safe to say that to an untrained eye, these two colors are very similar in appearance, there’s just one detail that goes completely unnoticed and that’s the reddish hue we mentioned earlier in this article. Both colors offer the natural advantage of helping to blend in with your natural hair, but you’ll also want to consider your complexion combined with the “warmth” of your own hair tone before choosing between these two shades.

G-4 or 210?

Medium brown or Truffle Brown? They’re both the same right? Not exactly. As we mentioned before with our darker browns, it’s easier to see the different warmer and colder tones between these two brown’s. Medium brown is your typical cool tone brown that also happens to be the most common among buyers. From the pictures though, it’s easier to see as the tone of natural brown hair lightens, you’ll also find reddish hues within. Which brings us to our Truffle brown and how to decide between the two. Truffle Brown simply has warmer tone infused into the shade, which is a better option for those with a warmer complexion as well. You can see the difference side-by-side, but it’s even more important when wearing the hairpiece as the difference will help bring out your natural complexion.

At Uniwigs.com we have several options when it comes to choosing your perfect wig or topper. You can always speak to one of our helpful customer service agents as well. Our goal is to help you get your confidence back and there’s no better way than with a new wig or topper. We can also offer samples if you’re trying to get the exact match, or you can send us a sample of your hair and we can offer our professional recommendation and make sure you get exactly what you want and need.

How to Maintain Synthetic Wigs

Whether it’s a human hair wig or a relatively cheaper synthetic wig, after they have been worn for a long time, they can often experience issues such as dry hair or frequent knots and tangles.
Synthetic wigs need to be maintained with the correct synthetic haircare, and they shouldn’t be treated or maintained like human hair wigs.
Here we will cover some great tips that can help you to maintain your synthetic wigs!

How to Maintain Synthetic Wigs
How to Maintain Synthetic Wigs

1. Synthetic wigs can’t take the dye
Synthetic fiber can’t easily take dye like human hair. As synthetic hair does not have natural pigments in the fiber, regular hair dye cannot color the fiber. To dye a synthetic wig, only dyes specially designed for synthetic hair can be used.

2. Cut carefully
The good news is that synthetic wigs can be cut. Although synthetic fiber is harder than human hair, and so it is more difficult to cut. To trim your synthetic wig or change its style, it’s recommended to go to a professional stylist.

3. Ditch the hair products
Too many hair products, specifically hair lacquer-based products such as hairspray, hair gel, and hair wax can make synthetic fiber sticky, resulting in more frequent tangles. Once these hair lacquer products get on synthetic fiber, it’s difficult to get them off.

4. Go for synthetic-friendly shampoos and conditioners
As synthetic fiber is not like human hair, they need special shampoos and conditioners designed for synthetic fiber to wash and maintain. And for haircare, non-oily maintenance products are recommended to maintain the hair rather than regular hair oil or serum.

5. Not all synthetic fibers are heat friendly
Although they are all called synthetic wigs, there are several different types of synthetic wigs. There are many different synthetic fibers made from different materials that are used on different synthetic wigs. Some synthetic fibers, such as Futura, Tru2Life, RealTress, and Henlong are heat-friendly to temperatures under 350°F/180°C. In contrast, synthetic fibers such as polyester, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), acrylic, and Kanekalon are not heat-friendly and can’t be curled or straightened with heat tools.

6. Wash correctly
The less washing, the better for synthetic wigs. It is recommended to wash a synthetic wig every 10-15 wears or every 1-4 weeks. Go for synthetic shampoos and conditioners and use lukewarm water to soak the wig for 2-3 minutes with shampoo before washing. After washing, do not rub or wring the wig. Instead, gently squeeze the water out and blot dry.

7. Air dry
Like mentioned before, synthetic fiber is not like human hair. Some synthetic wigs are not able to be styled with heat. Frequently using hair dryers also makes synthetic wigs more likely to become frizzy or tangled. So, the best way to dry synthetic wigs is to air dry them on a wig stand (not wig heads as they can cause the cap to loosen out of shape).

How to keep your wig feeling super soft this season

So, it’s still a little chilly outside, and all we want to do is cosy up indoors under snuggly blankets until the sun properly returns. When we do have to leave the comfort of home and brave the outdoors, cold weather, harsh winds and snow can be damaging to our skin, our hair… and our cherished wigs! Until Spring arrives, protect your investment by considering these methods.

Use a pH Balanced Shampoo
Our skin and hair’s natural pH balance is on the acidic side, so acidic based shampoos are very good for hair! (these shampoos are the opposite to regular alkaline based shampoos which can be very drying to hair). Acidic based shampoos close the cuticle shaft of hair and keep moisture in the hair, as well as not stripping off all of the hair’s oils. Any shampoo bottle that says it is pH balanced is going to be acidic based. So, wash your wig with a pH balanced shampoo to protect it from drying out.

Condition
This may sound obvious, but conditioner makes hair soft! It protects hair from dryness. If you want to protect your investment apply a generous amount of conditioner to your wig after washing. Let the conditioner sit for 15 minutes to an hour before rinsing in mild water for a deeper condition. A hair serum applied after styling or leave-in conditioner will also give your wig long-lasting protection and shine.

It’s how you brush
Brush through your wig gently to avoid the hair becoming frizzy or ripping the hair from the wig tracks. Start brushing from the ends of the hair and work your way up. If possible, try and separate the tangles with your fingers as this is very gentle. After brushing, a light oil sheen can be sprayed onto the wig to restore lustre, this can be done on synthetic and human hair wigs.

Dry naturally
To let your wig air dry after a wash rather than blow drying is much better for your wig’s condition. Also make sure that the hair is completely dry before going outside in cold weather or it could freeze! Wigs are more suspectable to freezing and this can cause brittle hair and breakage. Make sure you allow plenty of time for your wig to dry, letting it air dry over night is always a good way to know it will be dry in time.

Limit heat
Heat tool styling depletes your hair of moisture. We know, we know, heat tool styling provides hair with the most sleek and flawless looks! But consider cutting down during the cooler months to notice a difference in the softness of your wig. Of course, many synthetic wigs are not able to withstand any heat styling, so be sure to double check if yours is heat-friendly.

Cover up
Cover up and protect your wig! Always check the weather before you head out the door, and if there’s any chance of rain, snow, or generally bad weather, wrap your hair or wear a hat (silk lined is best to retain the hairs moisture) or grab an umbrella.

So that is how you keep your wig protected from the cold weather until the sun returns for spring! We can’t wait!

I am new to wigs. How should I pick a wig that suits me?

People choose to wear a wig for various purposes. Some people wear a wig to change up a look, while some some do so for covering hair loss. Other people wear a wig for cosplay or other shows, etc.

When it comes to choosing a wig that is suitable or has a natural look, many people feel lost and don’t know where to start.

Today, we will talk about how to choose a wig for people who are looking for covering hair loss.
When a topper cannot cover the hair loss area effectively, then you might think of wearing a wig instead. Let’s choose a wig following the steps below one by one.

1.What new look are you looking for?
Unlike a topper, wearing a wig will bring a totally new look to you. When you are walking on the street, there must be some people’s hair that you admire and you want to have the same hair style. Now you have a target. However, the hair you admire might not suit you and you need to figure out whether the hair color will match your own skin tone. For example, jet-black hair definitely doesn’t suit a person who has a fair skin tone and a blonde hair doesn’t suit a brown skin tone, either. The first thing you need to know is the range of hair colors that will suit you. This will narrow down your choices a lot to this range of hair colors.

4.What cap construction do you like?
There are several options for the cap construction including Lace front, Full lace, Glueless full lace, Silk top full lace, and Silk top glueless full lace.
All these cap constructions have a front lace and you need to cut it before wearing. The lace front makes a wig look more natural and helps to blend in with your own skin. You can apply a little glue or hair gel to the front lace and secure it and give yourself a more natural look.
If you are not comfortable with using glue, you can choose the glueless lace wig and use it with combs, clips and a stretch panel for securing the wig.
If you want to wear a pony tail, the full lace wig would be a good option. Since there is no lace at the back for glueless lace wigs, the wig will warp up at the back when you wear a ponytail. With a full lace wig, you can apply a little glue to the back lace to prevent it from warping up.
